Social Networking Connected Us (And Exposed Us)

It was said this week that social networking went from connecting us to friends to be becoming an integral part of our lives. The RSS feed revolution never caught me but I realize that I did want certain feeds of information to come my way. Then the whole idea of Twitter becoming a kind of search and rescue dog for recent world disasters really gripped me. But something else happened. Social networking also exposed us including our addictions, our fantasies, our neediness, our immaturity, our hang ups and issues, our lack of boundaries, our illiteracy (thanks to autocorrect that uncorrected everything), our attention getting, etc. And we feel so duped by this. Who did this to us? Who put ourselves out there like that, making these personal things public? In the words of Steve Green, "...no one else to blame". It was us all along. So we begin "the fast". Fast from social networking. Why don't we fast from other just as harmful addictions like eating, shopping, media, etc.? We need help. Lorraine Rosado said it best. "The flesh always works from an angle". And if everything is permissible but not beneficial, who will let us know what is and what isn't? Common sense? These days it ain't so common. We need help. We need a helper. We need someone who is not limited in anything but sees all things, knows all things...and is good. There is only One who is good. And He has gifted to me His Spirit who will tap me on my shoulder and whisper into my spirit what is good and pleasing and what is not. Not sure if I need a fast. Maybe. What I do need is more of Him. So I'll seek, ask and knock.
